How to use Redact PDF
- Select one unencrypted PDF with up to 100 pages.
- Choose a page and draw rectangles over the areas to remove, or add areas using percentage coordinates. Review the marked-area list.
- Choose 150 or 300 DPI and confirm that the entire document will become image-based.
- Choose Redact PDF and review the downloaded document before sharing it.
Worked example
A typical document-processing workflow.
Input
Page 1: a name appears inside a marked rectangle.
Output
A new image-only PDF with black pixels replacing the marked area.
Every page is rebuilt from rendered pixels. Original text objects, attachments, annotations, metadata, and signatures are not copied. Content outside the areas you mark remains visible.
What the tool does
Every page is rebuilt from rendered pixels. Original text objects, attachments, annotations, metadata, and signatures are not copied. Content outside the areas you mark remains visible.
All document processing happens in your browser. No PDF or image contents are sent to the tool API. Keep your original files and review every downloaded result.
Flattening and redaction
This redaction method rebuilds every page as an image, including pages with no marked areas. Selectable text, interactive forms, links, bookmarks, attachments, original metadata, and signatures are removed. Text outside marked areas remains visible and can still be read or recognized by OCR.
Black rectangles are applied to the rendered pixels before encoding the new page images. The output contains no original PDF page objects or hidden source text. Mark complete areas, review all pages, and keep the source document private.
Limits and supported files
The combined input limit is 50 MB. Rendering jobs process up to 100 pages or images, with at most 12 megapixels per rendered page or input image and 100 MB of accumulated encoded output. Choose fewer pages, a lower output DPI, or smaller images if a limit is exceeded.
Encrypted, corrupt, empty, and unsupported documents are rejected. XFA forms are unsupported. Large or complex files may exceed your device memory even within the stated limits. You can cancel processing; changing inputs or output settings clears previous download results.
Frequently asked questions
Are my files uploaded?

What happens if processing is cancelled?
No completed download is published for the cancelled operation. Your original files remain unchanged; you can run the tool again.
Does this work with protected PDFs?
Encrypted PDFs are unsupported. Use an unencrypted copy you are authorized to process.
