How to use Discount Calculator
- Enter the original price as a number greater than or equal to zero.
- Enter a discount from 0 to 100 percent. Use 25 for a 25% discount, not 0.25.
- Choose the currency used to display the price. This does not convert the input to another currency.
- Calculate the result and review the final price and savings. Add any applicable tax, shipping, or fees separately.
Worked example
A verified example before taxes and fees.
Input
Original price: 200 Discount: 25% Currency: USD
Output
Final price: $150.00 Savings: $50.00
Savings = 200 × 25 ÷ 100 = 50. Final price = 200 − 50 = 150. A 0% discount keeps the original price; a 100% discount reduces it to zero.
Formula and calculation
Savings = original price × discount percentage ÷ 100. Final price = original price × (1 − discount percentage ÷ 100). Both results use the numbers you enter.
The displayed amount is rounded for presentation. Calculations use JavaScript numeric arithmetic, so a displayed result is not a substitute for an accounting system with a prescribed rounding policy.
Understand the result
Final price is the discounted base price. Savings is the difference between the original and discounted price. Taxes, delivery charges, payment fees, and other adjustments are not included.
Changing USD to another currency changes the symbol and number formatting. It does not fetch exchange rates or convert purchasing power. Enter the original price in the currency you intend to display.
Limits and common mistakes
Negative prices and discounts outside 0–100% are rejected. Enter finite numeric values rather than currency symbols or percent signs in the numeric fields.
Successive discounts cannot usually be added together. For 20% off followed by 10% off, calculate the second discount on the first discounted price. The combined reduction is 28%, not 30%.
Frequently asked questions
Does the calculator include tax or shipping?
No. It calculates the discounted base price and savings. Apply other charges separately.
Does choosing a currency convert the price?
No. The selector controls the display unit and formatting, without exchange-rate conversion.
Can I enter a discount larger than 100%?
No. The supported discount range is 0–100%, and the original price must be non-negative.
